You've taken drone training courses and passed a written exam. A final clearance is needed for Advanced Operations Certification.

A Pilot Who Has
Been Where You Are

I am a RPAS Operator with more than 300 safe incident-free missions flown. I'm qualified and designated by Transport Canada as a Flight Review provider. My aviation background stretches back to 1986 with a Canadian Private Pilot Licence for traditionally crewed aircraft.

That's four decades of aeronautical thinking - airspace, weather, navigation, and the discipline that safe flight demands - applied directly to how I conduct drone licence reviews. I'm not evaluating candidates against a checklist. I'm evaluating you as a pilot of remotely controlled aircraft.

I went through this RPAS Flight Review process myself. I know what it takes to prepare for a drone licence. I haven't forgotten what it feels like to be on your side of this evaluation.

What to Expect

A Flight Review follows Transport Canada standards of two formal components; a pre-qualifying written exam, and an in-person evaluation, plus a full debrief.

Knowledge Evaluation

A structured RPAS Flight Review oral assessment of CARs Part IX, controlled and restricted airspace, risk assessment, meteorology, and emergency procedures. Candidates demonstrate understanding the reasoning for regulations - not just the rules themselves.

Aircraft Flight Demonstration

Candidates fly their own drone in real-world conditions. Assessed on pre-flight inspection, take-off and landing, precision-controlled maneuvers, situational awareness, and your response to simulated anomalies. Composure and command count.

Post-Review Debrief

Every review concludes with a clear, honest debrief. Whether you receive your endorsement that day or a roadmap for further practice, you'll know exactly where you stand - and leave a better pilot for it.

Arrive Ready

The RPAS Flight Review is an evaluation, not a training session. That said, I conduct it as a professional conversation between two pilots - not an interrogation. Pointers, here on the right, are considerations that set candidates up for success.

If you think additional preparation prior to taking a practical exam might be beneficial then I also offer Flight Review Preparation Training. It can be found in the same interface for booking a review. It is an opportunity to understand everything you'll be expected to be proficient with, as well as ask questions for clarification. It is provided via virtual video meeting, for up to 3 hours if needed. Booking information is at the bottom of this page.

  • Bring a comprehensive site survey and be ready to explain details
  • Know CARs Part IX - understand it, don't just memorize it
  • Be proficient with mission checklists, aircraft limitations, and emergency procedures
  • Log flight time before your review date, recent stick-time matters
  • Provide passed-exam results confirmation and government issued Photo ID
  • Bring current Canadian aeronautical documents such as current VNC, VTA and CFS
  • Provide proof of aircraft manual on hand and aircraft registration
  • Ask questions before your date - not during

Reviews conducted by appointment within GTHA if a suitable field can be suggested, other than my three default locations listed at the bottom of this page. I can travel within the right circumstances.

Upon booking, I will be provided with your contact information to arrange a date, time, and location. Or, contact me directly via details on this page for pre-booking questions.

The preparation training, mentioned above, isn't a formal drone training course, it is an information session. Preparation training cost is $150.00. It's important to understand that it is not about providing a rubric to ace an evaluation! It is a session to help understand the structure and expectations. It also provides an opportunity to ask questions for which clarification is needed. It isn't available on the same day as your scheduled formal evaluation.

Coaching cannot be provided during an actual in-person evaluation. You must arrive fully ready to satisfy Transport Canada knowledge requirements for Pilots of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems.
